Photos: A Look Back at BU’s Commencement
More than 60 of our favorite images that capture the joy on Nickerson Field celebrating the Class of 2025
BU’s All-University Commencement is always the biggest event of the year—but this year it was really big. A record 5,000 members of the Class of 2025 turned out on Nickerson Field on May 18, joined by a capacity crowd of family and friends. It was also BU’s first Commencement presided over by President Melissa Gilliam.
BU photojournalists Cydney Scott and Jackie Ricciardi, along with Janice Checchio, associate creative director for photography, and eight freelance photographers, took an astonishing 18,580 photos.
We’ve pulled together some 60 of our favorites, including photos of actor and Commencement speaker Emily Deschanel (CFA’98), who urged the graduates to have empathy for themselves and for others; student speaker Jason Wexler (COM’25, Questrom’25), who spoke about the importance of saying “yes” in life; and President Gilliam, who encouraged the graduating students to “face the future with courage and purpose.” And, yes, we’ve included Bean, BU’s community service dog, whose appearance on the big screen drew some of the day’s loudest cheers.
